Spyware Illegally Withdraws Y9.4 Million From 3 Banks

TOKYO — A total of 9.4 million yen has been withdrawn from nine accounts at three banks due to illegal access by the "spyware" bug, the head of the Japanese Bankers Association said Tuesday. The three banks are Mizuho Bank, eBank Corp and Japan Net Bank, Terunobu Maeda said.
Each bank will deal separately with the question of compensating the affected depositors for losses, he said. As an anti-spyware measure, the association will provide information to member banks that will work together with police when necessary, according to Maeda, who is also president of Mizuho Financial Group Inc.
